A short time later, as the team were still standing in the lounge marveling about the apparent movement of the Themis statue, Alicia suddenly let out a gasp. She had been standing near the door into the kitchen, and when everyone turned to look, they immediately saw what she had gasped at.
The surface of the door had instantly become studded with countless beads of water, which then began to drip slowly towards the floor. âI noticed the bottom of the door was wet and was about to alert the others when thousands of tiny droplets instantaneously covered the entire door. It happened right before my eyes,â she said.
âThe water appeared in the blink of an eye, just in a flash,â Steve says. âIt wasnât there and then it just was.â He notes that the water simply seemed to have appeared there in bead form, not as if had seeped out of the door or been thrown or flicked there; the droplets were perfectly formed and round, not spattered. He felt around to the back of the door, the side that faced the kitchen, and it was bone dry. The water dripped down the door for about two minutes, after which it simply dried up, very quickly, just as it had on the ceiling on their previous visit. After a minute or two, the side of the door facing the lounge was likewise dry to the touch.
Steve, fascinated by this new iteration of the water phenomena, kept expecting a return of the more dramatic water manifestations theyâd witnessed before, like the downpour in the kitchen or the intelligently moving tendrils on the hallway ceiling. His camera was at the ready. But apparently the water on the door was the only such incident of that type they would see that time around.
After a while, they gave up watching for more of that strange rainfall, and simply began talking among themselves again, preparing to pack up their equipment, and making notes about everything they had witnessed during the course of the night. It was sunrise, and they were all simply wandering around, and thinking of making some breakfast before the Gardners were due to return.
Suddenly, Valerie, who was in the hallway with Carole, called out. âSteve! Come here a minute.â
Steve went into the hallway. There he found Valerie, Carole, and Alicia, who had come out from one of the other rooms. They were all standing there, sniffing the air.
As Steve approached them, he was hit by a very strong, distinctive fragrance.
âCan you smell that?â Valerie asked.
He could. âIt smells like flowers,â he said. The aroma was potent, as though the flowers were right under his nose.
Peter came into the hallway. Steve asked, âCan you smell anything?â
Peter nodded. âFlowers. Really strong,â he said.
The smell persisted for quite a while, not fading in all of that time. Steve notes that there were no flowers present in the house, and indeed that the entire house smelled of nothing so much as damp, like a wet dog.
